Glacial Offspring
The Hooker Lake, located in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, started to form in the late 1970s. Frozen solid in the winter, with floating icebergs in the summer, the lake is growing in parallel with the rapid retreat of the Hooker Glacier. The lake's colour, a soft pastel blue-grey, is caused by very fine grains of glacier-eroded rock.
