At the centre of the Otago gold rush was a little settlement called St Bathans. Visit it and you are quickly transported back in time due to the careful preservation of many of the buildings.
The effects of the gold rush on the landscape are equally evident, from the carved-out rock faces to the small man-made lake created by gold-sluicing.
