The Wither Hills are an iconic fixture of the Marlborough landscape. They overlook the vast stretches of land known as the Wairau Plains like a protective mother. As a child, I was oblivious to much of the landscape of my home town, but I do recall the colour of the Wither Hills, perpetually dry and brown. This time, however, the rolling hills were alive, and the valleys and peaks reminiscent of lines on a face that has witnessed the passing of time.
